Japanese do eat and sell a significant amount of kimuchi (they consider it to be healthy), it's just they don't eat so much of it that the garlic smell exudes from their pores, like Koreans. Japanese also managed to improve the recipe (mainly the process of making it), and made a kimuchi with all the health benefits, without the smell.
They also don't use it to complement roast dog, like Koreans do.
