Dating is overrated.

i don't date.  it's not that i'm not attracted to women, or can't get them interested in me.  it's just that i have no real interest in a dating relationship.  tried it, and it just seemed like trouble and hassle with no real payoff.

so far as i can see it, dating relationships are merely an excuse for guys to get the benefits of marriage without any of the actual responsibilities of maintaining a household.  even if a relationship is non-sexual during dating, it can be a constant source of tension and emotional turmoil.  as a responsible person, i feel that this is undesireable.

unfortunately, going straight from 'single' to 'married' seems to have some sort of stigma attached to it, which i've never been able to properly comprehend.  the 'dating' phase of a relationship seems to be a given, and cutting it out seems to be unforgivably taboo.

being without a girlfriend for so long constantly gets me accusations of being gay, or people peering at me suspiciously as if i might be contagious.  very frustrating.

i beg advice from the anonymi of this board, either in how to deal with this problem, or explaining the inate fascination with casual relationships  which somehow eludes me.

Non-permanent relationship = sex that can end as soon as you feel like dumping her. Marriage = lots of problems if/when you dump her.

Basically dating = only way to get sex for most guys. Why else would you bother to go out with some girl? Why not just be friends then?

I personally hate the idea of dating, it's artificial and... blah. I never planned on dating anyone if I could manage that. I loved the idea of friends since childhood that just decided to stay together. Not many of us have that luxury though. I almost had it, but somebody had to completely fuck up her life.

What choice do I have now though? I don't want to be alone for the rest of my life. I bet neither do you though so we're both stuck doing something we dislike. The very idea of "Why don't you have a girlfriend?" is annoying. Maybe I don't know many (or any) of the type of girl I'd really like to be with? People need to grow up. Rushing out and getting some random girlfriend is only good for one thing, to save your reputation with loser friends and for sex. Big whoop. I'm no 15 year old who thinks that's all there is to life.
