Deflowered....

Yesterday I lost my online virginity. For the first time in my life I played a game online....

I have been playing quiet a bit PGR offline and I am very comfortable with my racing abilities. So I installed live, sat down with my headset on and got excited to play. My first sign that things were not going to well was when I loaded up a quick match and was welcomed by some very nice chap who didn't speak any english but insisted on trying to start a conversation, I thought if maybe I stopped talking and kept very still he might go away. Nope, he kept talking and talking. Slowly I reached for the headset cord, not wanting to make any sound to alert him I was still there, and yanked the cord out.

Anyway, the race loaded and I am sitting on the starting line, ready to kick arse in my white TVR Typhon (whatever the hell that is). The light goes Green, and quick as a flash I sputer of the starting line while 7, what looked like F1 racing cars blurred passed me. Of course, I came last, didn't see another car the entire race and ended up not even crossing the finishing line because I was taking to long and the game decided it wasn't even worth letting me!

Anyone else get scared away by their first time online gaming?

lol

My first LIVE session I remember saying "can you guys hear me" and a room full of people laughed and replied "yes we can hear you".

I was pleasently surprised at how easy it was to setup. I expected problems but didn't get any.

Kinda reminds me of when i first got into Counter-Strike online. I was a bit late to the party, and the first server i went onto... i just couldn't get a fucking kill. No matter what i did, i just got fucking owned.

Obviously, it takes some time. Humans are far smarter then AI, and a lot harder to predict. In online racing games though, these guys are probably so much more experienced then you, it was unfair. Just keep practicing... you'll sooner or later be getting the occassional wins. And making other newbies feel like you felt

Wow this thread brings back memories.

I think my first online game was a vampire MMPORG called the The Last Hall of Darkness or something. It had horrible support and was an early alpha. i remember walking around through miles and miles of wasteland as a level 1 vampire, biting at trees and tombstones, and then getting raped by a bunch of bats. Then I'd see a wizard off in the night distance, standing by a cave, and i'd approach and say "hey what are you doing", and he'd fucking wipe me out with a thunderbolt and the game would reset, and I'd be like: I need to become that.

Playing as a newbie in an online game is the most fun you'll ever have with it. It trumps even being a total professional. I got like that in Soldier of Fortune 2, and then I quit, but I'll never forget my first game on the roof of mp_office; 40 guys with AKs rushing off the sides of the building and breaking windows, grenades going off down the elevator and the opposing side rushing the far rooftop.

im a loser.
