Popular music has been pretty shitty overall these days (I think it hit a low around 2000, but it's getting rather better again). But Japan never could make music!
Who's with me!

Love Psychedelico has some really neat songs that sound a bit 60's/70's. "everyone, everyone", "last smile", "a day for you" are a few singles to try. makes me wish i was a hippie!! good music to chill out to when stoned.

Yes. I loved The Pillows'Backseat Dog until I realized it wasn't a super-happy peice, it was a piece about being chained by a woman. I used to love the Brilliant Green's Flowers until I read the lyrics and found out it was a stupid song about loneliness or whatever.

The Flaming Lips is an example of what I thought Japanese music was before I read translations of the lyrics.

Rammstein and denpa J-pop are both excellent examples of music that sounds good until you understand the lyrics about incest.

JAPAN CANNOT MAKE MUSIC!
Neither can anybody else. What's your point?

Hey, I'm an anime nerd who likes Japanese Music!!!
People have different tastes, you know? What one person hates, another may love, and neither of them are in any position to say the other is wrong.
I listen to just about everything from over-commercialized music to Indie rock. There are a few genres here and there that I dislike, but I'm not going to knock 'em. I just don't like them. End of discussion.

jpop fails. Other japanese music might be good, but I've never bothered looking into any of it.

what the shit is up with rap anyway?
as some have said here, it helps me that i dont know the lyrics so the tune has more effect.

Give me my sweater back, or I'll play the guitar!
Apparently you don't listen to Sambo Master or the Blue Hearts.
The Blue Hearts did the Ramones better than the Ramones did the the Ramones.

i listen to japanese music, but it's not the only thing that i listen to. Some of it is j-pop, but i listen to everything i can. you never know what you're missing if you never hear it. supercar is great, FAKE? is good, but i haven't heard any superior guitar play from japan.
The best thing to come out of Japan is Eurobeat. You know, they package something made in italiy and it's "Made in Japan".
Innovation for the block !
