English Thread

In this thread, we attempt to learn to read, write, and speak English, a language which would be very useful to know. It is widely spoken throughout the world.

While "ing" can be conceived in the present tense as a current or ongoing process, it can also become closer to a state:

"He is going out with her" - they are not "going out" now or in the future, but they are in the state of going out.

"She is writing a novel" - writing a novel is certainly a process but the (very likely) reality is that she not writing it now.

Unfortunately, English doesn't have grammar that makes this distinction apparent.
