Where did you learn esperanto and what have been the advantages

I was 14 years old and wandering around in a library, I went into the languages section and saw an Esperanto lesson book ("Step by Step in Esperanto" by Montagu C. Butler). Out of curiosity I checked it out, and then read it during lunches at the school and pretty much taught Esperanto to myself over a month using that book and lernu.net. To be honest Esperanto has only been of an advantage to me because I like it. I like meeting the people who speak it and I like being able to speak a second language fluently with little effort (I have been learning Spanish for much longer than Esperanto, yet I speak Esperanto with much more confidence and clarity). It will only be advantageous to you if you seek out the opportunities it provides, such as use of Pasporta Servo (worldwide house sharing/couch surfing service for esperantists). Otherwise you'll probably not see the point. Oh, and you can come up with some pretty nasty insults thanks to its agglutinative structure; that's pretty fun.

As for insults, it's more of a spur of the moment thing. But for example you could tell someone, "iru kacen" (go to dick) or "bugren" "merden" etc (go to buttfuck, shit, etc). "kacsuĉisto" = cocksucker, "furzfikisto" = fartfucker, "feklekulo" = shitlicker, "gejulaĉo" = faggot (literally, "disgusting/vile gay person). Or you can make up phrases like, "forfikiĝu" = Get the fuck out, malestiĝu = "stop existing", "fekmanĝu" = eat shit. It's sort of hard to explain why these are fun to make if you're not doing it yourself...

Here, I'll just try to come up with random ones right now...
"Reiru pugtruen, elpugulo" = (vaguely) "go back to the butthole, person who came out of an ass" (literally "from-ass-person")
"Buŝfikinda" = "worthy of being fucked in the mouth"
"Bugrema" = an adjective that means something like "bugger-loving"
"Via fekida filo abortendas" = (vaguely) "Your shitspawn child calls for an abortion" (lit. "it is imperative that you abort your offspring-of-shit child"

Actually that last one...I really don't know how to translate literally. "Abortendi" would be "to need to be aborted" I guess, so, "your son-of-shit child is needing to be aborted"...Something like that. "Abortenda" is a shade stronger than saying "abortion-worthy", it's saying an abortion is actually required, not just suggested.

The advantages include greater freedom of expression - you can fit more concepts into Esperanto's freewheeling vocabulary - and euphony. Not to mention a great number of cognates with other European languages (Polish, French, German, English, and very especially Latin).
