To be honest, I think something along the lines of "Cthulu Saves the World" and "Breath of Death VII" are doing more to move JRPGs along than HDN, and both of them were developed by a two man crew in America. :/
They're even making Rain-Slick 3 and 4, which should be sick if they improve upon CStW. I guess from a rational perspective I understand what they're doing by making what was once my favorite genre into an anime shitstorm, but I really think they're making games less fun by doing things they way most developers do. Having a simple combat system that makes grinding either minimal or unnecessary seems like the way to go to me.
But what do I know? I'm just some guy on the internet.

Yes, mostly medieval fantasy and future/past like final fantasy.

Ironically, this game came up in conversation a few weeks ago and one of the African American kids I work with said "Why is it that white people think it’s cool to act like they grew up in the hood, if they did would not think it was so cool." He went on to say [in other colorful words] that a game that glamorizes that theme was stupid. I told the kid the programmers/publishers were actually Asian [Squaresoft] and he just laughed and said some more colorful rhetoric. I thought the 80’s were bad enough, but the early 90’s [when all of this nonsense started] should be erased from history.
