Spanish Advice

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-18 12:14

Alright, /lang/, I need some help with the espanol.

I've done high school and college spanish.  So I'm well past the simple shit when it comes to spanish, which it seems is what every spanish teaching program/app/video series/podcast/whatever wants to harp on.  Either that,  or they dive right in to complex shit at a million miles per hour (or km/h, if you're of the castilian-speaking persuasion).

Where do I go or what do I do to bridge the gap?  How do I study intermediate levels of spanish?  I can understand maybe 60-70% of spanish if I watch it on TV, for example, but I can't catch but maybe 10-20% if I'm listening to native speakers have a conversation.  I'd like to be able to understand and converse with them, eventually.

Any direction would be much appreciated.  This can also be a general spanish thread/spanish questions thread or whatever.

Go to Mexico!! My landlord went there without knowing any Spanish except for basic stuff, and he ended up learning more Spanish there than his brother who only took Spanish in school. So my landlord talks to us in Spanish so he can preactice lol

If you understand 60-70% of what you see on TV then you're really advanced. You just need to watch more and talk to people more. Also, buy the book "Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish."
