The finish 7 years in waiting...

Back in 2003, when I was twelve, I was absorbed in what I heard about this game. I was an enormous Dragonball fan and miniture video game aficianado. I had heard many wonderful things about SNES-era RPGs and was enamored with Super Famicom imports.

Over the years up until that point, my brother and I has amassed several Dragon Ball games (including previously Japan only titles such as Legends and Ultimate Battle 22 for the PSX). Although my interest would peter out in later years, for this moment in time I was preoccupied with Toriyama's creations as much as any other testosterone addled pubescent male with an affection for action cartoons.

...The idea of a comic-accurate 16-bit journey through the adventures of Goku's youth further encouraged my acquisition and fandom.

The only problem was, I didn't own a Super Nintendo, let alone a Super Famicom. While I had heard of this game on the Internet, obviously there were no American retailers who know about or even carry this ****. That meant Ebay.

Too bad my parents didn't have an account, so I started my own. They didn't own any credit cards, and I was ignorant as hell about wise transactions overseas. But, alas, I eventually found and sniped a bid for this game. It was for the cartridge and instructional booklet only. Thankfully that was within my means (I didn't have a job or allowance) and I made do. I think was the total was fifteen dollars, including shipping. Straight outta Japan, lol. Good thing the guy was honest, (naive at the time) I sent an envelope with cash and quarters. I remember eagerly awaiting its arrival, everyday in anticipation I would rush to the mailbox after getting home from school.

Finally, like two weeks after winning the bid, we received a package in the mail addressed not to my parents, but to me.

Hell yeah.

That was like birthday morning, awesome. I delicately opened the package, and marveled through the instruction booklet (which was adorned with full-color illustrations taken from the anime, including an awesome shot of Goku impaling Piccolo Sr.)!

Sweet, got that out of the way. Now, all I had to do, was get a ****ing system. I, of course, was broke. I knew of a used SNES that I could modify at a local game store. It was $35 bucks. So, I waited two weeks and my birthday appeared.

With birthday cash in tow, I was finally ready. I would be able to actually play the game I had obsessed over for months now. Prior to even buying the game, I had printed out David Rutlege's FAQ and read through it a few times. I printed out the Event and Battle FAQ, read those for fun. I was drooling with excitement.

So, with my birthday money I bougth the SNES. Too bad they didn't have a return policy, because the ****ing thing didn't work. DAMNATION!!! I was too embarrassed and distraught to tell my folks. Next, our home flooded. It wasn't that bad, but my room needed serious renovation. In the meantime, as my room was getting the water sucked out of it, I would toil nights working with a screwdriver trying desperately to remove the plastic squares blocking SFC games from the SNES cartridge slot. I sucked at it. Didn't happen. Didn't budge.

So, I sucked it up and moved on...

BUT--for years the idea of getting another SNES was in the farrr back corner of my mind.

Eventually, like six years later. Scenario changes. I'm about to turn eighteen and I'm probably doing some reflection about my life.

Why are people who were born of the 2000s so cute and people who were born in the 1990s such insufferable idiots?
