Learning Swedish in 3 months

Hi, I'm going to Sweden for 3 months on a student exchange.  I'm a native English speaker.  How possible would it be to learn Swedish during this time abroad immersed in the language?

How do you overcome the beginning? I imagine learning a language, especially through immersion would become a lot easier/faster once you have a grasp of the language and can converse with other natives, be able to read the newspaper, listen to the radio or watch movies/tvs and have a grasp of what's being said.  How did you quickly bring yourself up to this level?
