Learning several languages at the same time

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-01 3:47

I've been thinking about learning a few languages, mostly because I'm bored, but also they might help me out later on if I decide to go to gradschool out of the states. Any have experience/tips for learning several at the same time?

i posted a thread like this a while ago. the more languages you learn, the less time you will have for other things if you learn them all a little per day as usual, or the longer it will take to progress in each.

if you do 1 lesson per day for french, german, and swedish, sure youll progress (if your language acquisition aptitude is high), but that's a rather time consuming process, considering a language is only learned when applied through exercises, conversing with natives, etc.

if you do 1 lesson of german today, 1 french tomorrow, 1 swedish the third day, youll have time for other things, but your progression in each will be slower.

it all depends on what you want to do. personally, i would do the rotating cycle. it helps keep motivation high, and unless you are really dedicated to learning these languages, such an intensive process like the first will be taxing on your will.

just my previous experiences.
