Can a modern (educated) Chinese native read the original texts of Confucius or Sun Tzu?

Can a modern Greek read Plato?

I'm wondering if these languages have changed too much over the centuries or if the ancient form is still intelligable to a modern speaker.

Why would a Chinaman be able to read texts in Latin?!
