I guess this is something that makes most languages other than Japanese in a certain sense very frustrating to learn. And I'm not even talking about anime/manga only. On pretty much any form of media you can think of, there's tons and tons of Japanese stuff you can very easily get from Share.

Suomi is an awesome language, very kaunis. (lol I hate people that mix in foreign words)
Err, anyway, I learned a bunch of Finnish once, while dating a Finn. Cool language, I found it interesting and fun. However after seperating there was no longer any reason for me to use it so I've forgotten most from lack of practice. Best way to learn is obviously from a native, so do that if you can. Check out unilang.org, browse around to the Finnish section, they can hook you up with a 'pen pal' and the forums are decently active. Great community.

Oh yeah, http://www2.lingsoft.fi/cgi-bin/fintwol is massively useful, also there was some fun flash based cartoonish site for learning Finnish that I enjoyed but can't remember what it was. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm Scottish and am learning Finnish. It's mostly just for fun although I would like to move to Scandinavia at some point in the future. I intend to learn Norwegian and maybe Swedish as well and then do lots of travelling pretending I don't speak English.

As a speaker of a minoritz language (Gaelic) I'm also interested in learning Sami.

TS is a retarded fucking cunt. Chinese wouldn't work together with the Latin alphabet since one word can mean a lot of things. There are for example old poems and stuff that can only be read since reading them out loud would be like repeating the same word over and over again = completely incomprehensible.

However, using a sane alphabet would not mean that a person couldn't learn the specific characters in question for the purpose of the study of ancient poetry. Are these poems even accessible to non-scholars in the first place?
