Icelandic

So i herd you enforce the no-loanwords policy in Icelandic, remove everything foreign, etc.
Does anyone really follow it in colloquial speech?
Or, by far, does anyone really use Icelandic in everyday life?

hey guys i want to learn icelandic but i've heard that unless you are very good at it and have a good accent, people won't understand you. is that true?
