How to Pronounce Makey

"Makey" is one of the default names for the female character in Pokemon Fire Red (English version).

How the heck do you pronounce that? Is it like "make," or is it like that guy from South Park?

I initially thought makee, but everyone knows Pokemon world follows Classic Latin ortography, therefore the name should be pronounced Ma-ke-ue
