Language learning purpose other than pron/sex

That's the question. What do you learn a language for besides pornography and sex?

My interest in learning German are for these reasons:
To read Kant, Nietzsche, Fichte, and others in their original language
To appreciate Tristan and Isolde, and also Parsifal

My interest in learning French are for these reasons:
To read Jean-Paul Sartre, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, among others
To read Charles Baudelaire among other French poetry
