niconico Z?

I have been using niconicodouga a lot lately, very enjoyable. I have a question though. Is there a special meaning to the "Z" looking symbol? I see it a lot. I'm not talking about te, it's more Z like than that. But also sort of round at the bottom as well. Maybe it's just a character I am not recognizing, if so please tell me that.

the 乙 kanji is used for the sound not the meaning
