Japanese at the University level

Hello. I'm planning to major in Japanese. I'm wondering about the workload for a basic 112 Japanese course. What kind of homework do you get? Or do you just have to study all of what you have reviewed? Or is it up to you to read up a certain amount of pages for a night? Is the workload close to that of an English class? I'm wondering because while taking Japanese I will be taking an State&Capitalism/English class as well. As far as I can tell, one looks like the 'duller' class (S&C/Eng) and then the other seems like the 'funner' one (Japanese).  My friend taking early college classes scared me by saying she hardly got any sleep from a single class.

I suppose it depends on your school and teacher, but my experience with college level japanese hasn't been overwhelming.  I don't recall ever spending more than 2 hours on any sort of homework, and usually I had things wrapped up in about 40 minutes.  It just depends on the exercises.  Essays will take a while to write, but they won't be monumental tasks.  When I studied in Japan the teachers there asked the students to study for 4 hours a day at least, but even then things were pretty easy.

Long story short, if you pay attention in class and take notes you'll be fine.  If you're a weeaboo and want to talk about naruto during class you'll fail.
