Animal noises in languages

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-24 15:04 ID:6r5fcYK3

A couple of friends and me were wondering about how animal noises are imitated in different languages. So I thought why not make a thread about it. I'll start by giving some German examples and I'll try to add a close English approximation in brackets so you'll know how to pronounce it.

Rooster: Kikeriki (keekerrykee)
Donkey: I-ah (ee-ah)
Cat: Miau (meeaooh)
Dog: Wau/Wuff (waoo/wooph)
Sheep: Määh (mae)
Pig: Oink (oynk)
Pigeon: Gurr (Very hard, u is as in "goo" but the rr is hard to describe. 'Rolling r')

The only other language I know fluently...

Japanese:

Pig(ぶた): ブーブー Buu buu
Dog(犬):- ワンワン Wan wan
Cat (ねこ):- ニャー nya
Cow (うし):- モーモー Moo moo (pronounced Moe, moe)
Rooster (/にわとり): Kake-something, forgot.  But its really long.
Frog (かえる):ケロケロ Kero kero
I don't recall some of the animals you listed, so I added random animals instead.  I'm sure you could look up the rest if you needed to.
