Learning Finnish...

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-27 23:07 ID:sA2QYuEl

Hey guys, I plan on transferring to Finland for college, and majoring in ethnomusicology, however in order to gain access to better courses and not the whole "immersion" shit, I need to be fluent in Finnish. I've got some websites that are pretty useful, but i need something on the level of "rosetta stone" that will help me along in my daily practice. (I might also take lingusitics )

Can you good fellows suggest me something? Thanks /lang

So how good is your Finnish? How much time do you have before going to Finland? Are you looking for free resources or recommendations for textbooks?

You really don't need to learn finnish if you come here, because most of us speak English very well, but the language is cool, swedish blows, don't learn it, kthx. \o

Finnish is not a dead language FYI. Also, it's his choice if he wants to study ethnomusicology, there's never enough of ethnomusicologists on this planet! :)

That's such a silly thing to say. I don't work because I want to get a good job and high pay, that's some niggardly western shit right there, people don't sponsor family, and happiness because they and too busy being some prosperous type of person. I want to do this because I have a love for culture and music, and i find suomi to be an especially fascinating and beautiful one. Not to mention Soumi provides good education very cheaply, and that by learning suomi I can intergrate myself into finnish society and give something back that provided education to foreign students.
