Gaeilge

I'm going to try studying some Gaelic. I'm aware of the fucked up way of spelling. Any suggestions for websites to help along (e.g. grammar lessons, grammar lessons, grammar lessons)?

Well, I'm not much help personally unless you're up for Gaidhlig, but I guess a good place to start would be the BBC. Or find an Irish Comunn Na Gaidhlig.

Try finding a really good grammar site to start off with though, because that will take the longest to get used to, I think. That and the spelling rules (lenition and that).
One with pronnunciation along with it would be good, but if not, find something like that next. Take little steps.

So which Gaelic are you going to study?

I believe he/she means to mean Gaeilge... ergo the Irish version of the language... use this... it may help....

Yes, I meant the Irish version. The Scottish version is Gaidhlig I believe, as >>2 said. I've learned Japanese initially via the internet, and now speak it at a near-native level (granted, I did live there for a year after studying). I'm planning on teaching myself some Gaeilge and then spend a year studying in England, with hopefully several trips to my ancestral home of Eire.

Thank you for that useful link. The best way to learn reading is to study grammar and frequently attempt to translate documents that have translations readily available, or that are easily interpreted by context clues. I learned a LOT of French and Italian this way (without ever even studying the grammer, merely building on the Spanish I learned in junior high), and can read some of my friend's Chinese blog based on my Japanese knowledge.
