I know I really suck at Japanese.
But after getting back my test, I think my Japanese teacher sucks at math. Badly. This isn't just a few points here.
Please add the numbers for me so I know I don't suck at math. I pasted bits of paper over her sums for the second part (out of 80) and the whole grade.

I think you guys are getting 51 for the bottome, which is what I got. There's also the 14/20 at the top, which, if I'm reading it right, means 20 points are on the top bit and eighty on the bottom. so 14 + 51 = 65, which is shit, but not 45.

"Nice" reason is it's a journal and for some reason the guy's going on about what he did yesterday.

I will, I'm not at all happy with it.
I am the OP. My keyboard is loud and probably bothering my roomie. I also need to sleep. Someone please save and mail whatever this thread ends as to
imabum@pookmail.com. Anyone can check it there in the morning; it'll stay there for 24 hours.
The advice so far has been great and I thank you, /b/.

Ooh, I've used minna no nihongo as well. There are probably many ways to use "n desu" but it looks like the OP is a beginner rather than an advanced student so we're probably confusing him with all this talk of "n desu"

It's a balance between grammar and vocabulary activities. Not as good as Japanese for Busy People, which I used before this class, but still okay. The professor and the students are what really make class so great. The textbook, not as much.

なかま1 Is my book. Hasn't steered me wrong yet (so far as I know).

Japanese For Busy People and Genki are still my favorites by far. Minna no nihongo was good, but really in depth. I haven't used yokooso.

We could move the discussion to the text boards where it will likely stay up for a while.

My first year in university we used this thing called "Yookoso!" that...well, I didn't learn shit. Then when I took Japanese at another university, we used Genki...Genki is superior.

Yeah, Japanese for Busy People was great. I remember drawing funny stuff in the workbook. Mostly adding things to Biji-san. The chapter titles were so weird sometimes. "Delicious Cakes".

Indeed.
And yes, contrary to popular belief, there are text boards.

Your professor is full of shit. It makes it more personal. You should never choose to say わからないんです instead of わかりません, as わからないんです is, for one thing, an lazy わからないのです, and second of all, adding the ん/の adds a certain degree of emotion to it. I can't find an English source that talks about this on the net, though, so sorry...you'll have to kick your prof's ass my word for it.

OP, do you go to school in CA? Because all CA schools teach Japanese for shit.

Despite the plate being three blocks from my dorm, no. Rhode Island.
Thankfully I am taking the class pass/fail. Otherwise, I'd be fucked. Especially since it's part of a two-course track that you can't get credit for half of.

Unless you're in a proper Japanese language school, but they're run by strict standards in Kyoto.
And my college is in CA but they teach it pretty well here...

No, public email/throwaway address. No address is secure (no passwords) and all mail is auto-deleted after 24 hours.
Also, we are on the text boards now. Sort of.

They teach Japanese in Texas here, half these farm boys can't even speak properly to begin with, you have to hear them trying to slur out Japanese
I'll stick to my loose understanding of Spanish
