I wonder what the meaning of 88 would be in Asia? Like in "88 Xintiandi hotel". I'm confused...

8 is a lucky number is chinese, implying great fortune.  so "88 xintiandi" would roughly translate to "Luckity-luck rich new heaven and earth" in English.
