That's exactly what happens when you're banned. It sometimes looks like you have access but when you go to respond, it kicks you back out. I'm participating in threads right now. No problems at all.

How do I know if I am banned?
If you're banned you will be redirected to http://www.4chan.org/banned when trying to access the board(s) you're banned from. If you're getting 403 or 404 errors, this doesn't necessarily mean you're banned.
