I don't get it.

[a / b / c / d / e / f / g / gif / h / hr / k / m / o / p / r / s / t / u / v / w / wg] [i / ic] [cm / y] [r9k] [an / cgl / ck / co / fa / fit / hc / jp / mu / n / po / sp / tg / toy / trv / tv / x] [rs] [status]

How are these grouped?

[a / b / c / d / e / f / g / gif / h / hr / k / m / o / p / r / s / t / u / v / w / wg]
[i / ic]

It's not by server.

I could be completely wrong about this, so don't quote me.

[a / b / c / d / e / f / g / gif / h / hr / k / m / o / p / r / s / t / u / v / w / wg]

The boards seem to be grouped in alphabetical order. This group of boards were the first to be added to 4chan when it expanded after /b/: e.g. /b/ - "Anime/Random", (The original name for the /b/ board) then /h/ - "Hentai", /c/ - "Anime/Cute", "/d/ - "Hentai/Alternative", ect. so it could also be grouped by chronological order.

[i / ic]

I can see why these two would be grouped together. /i/ is the Oekaki drawing board, and /ic/ is the artwork critique board. They pretty much go hand-in-hand.

[cm / y]
Just a quick look at both of these boards, you will see how they can be grouped together.

[r9k]
Not so sure about /r9k/

[an / cgl / ck / co / fa / fit / hc / jp / mu / n / po / sp / tg / toy / trv / tv / x]

At first I thought because most of these boards have two or three letters that they'd be grouped together like this. Then, I realized all these boards are dedicated to a hobby of some sort. /cgl/ is discussion and pictures of Cosplaying, /ck/ is Food & Cooking, /fa/ is Fashion, /mu/ is Music, /n/ is Transportation, ect. But, what confuses me is that /k/ and /v/ could also fall under this category, so that's where I get a bit confused, and like I said in the beginning of my post, I could be completely wrong about this.

(http://rs.4chan.org/) /rs/ is under a bit of a different format from the rest of the boards, since it's for posting links to files uploaded to Rapidshare. I can understand why it's grouped by itself.

Makes sense to have this one grouped by itself.
