Do the mods get a lot of reports of "illegal content" when it turns out the thread is just copyright violation?

Yes, but it's a civil matter, not a criminal one, mostly. The copyright holder is responsible for pursuing it, not the police. "Illegal content" means that the content ITSELF is illegal (e.g., CP), not just legal content being USED illegally.
