I just found this imageboard: http://code.google.com/p/4chandk/

has anyone tried it? is it worth using?
I tried to install it but got a MySQL-error when importing the database, so I would like some reviews before i bother getting it running.

Most software out there is based on someone else's older work.  Who would say that Microsoft didn't "make" Internet Explorer?  No one in their right mind would, and yet it had code from NCSA Mosaic in it until version 7.

Saying they have an obligation to release the modified code is like saying a person has to release the margin notes they write in a book back to the author of that book.

Anyone is free to modify publicly available code as they wish, and is not beholden to make any such modifications public.  Hell, even the GNU license doesn't make you release source code to derivative works as long as they are private (i.e., not distributed).
