Posited Display Character Limit on imageboard

I submit that a display limit of 50 characters for any single post on the imageboards(not in the Discussion areas but the actual imageboard threads) would result in a greater cohesion and coherency of said threads; also resulting in faster page-load times and less frequent "mile-pages" that seem to be more and more common.Thoughts?

Why is that? Perhaps a limit of say, 300 characters is better?
