New images are like fresh stimuli to the brain, providing new perspectives and ideas, much like a new dish at a restuaraunt as opposed to the same food for 365 days. This is what makes CG sites and imageboards so great, as they provide fresh material most of the time, and even going back to a website to view old images can be refreshing, especially when you haven't visited in some time (or have bad memory).
For some reason I can't appreciate a picture if it's been downloaded and saved on my hard drive. The typical response is "oh, I've downloaded that. I've seen it. Nothing new here." Whereas clicking a thumbnail on some site and seeing it load fresh is like finding some delicious fruit hidden amongst the branches of an impenetrable rainforest. "Ah-hah! I've found it! So ripe for the picking. Yet if I leave it here, I can always come back, or at least find it again if it's gone."
And then it's gone. But it's better than looking at the same thing on my hard drive. Because it will always be there. There will be no element of surprise.
