The unfortunate part about the WiiU is that 3rd party publishers didn't take the time to develop any AAA games that were worth while to the WiiU. The only notable title that really got any praise was maybe Lego City Undercover and a handful of digital titles. Everything else seems to have been a port or shitty titles just banking on a hopefully successful launch.
In all years with following Nintendo, all I've ever heard from publishers is complaints about how Nintendo 1st party titles overtake sales on Nintendo hardware. I thought this was a prime time for 3rd parties to step up their game and provide some quality games on Nintendo hardware with out Nintendo competition. They only had to compete with NSMBU and Nintendoland. That's it. What did we get, a dull niche horror game Zoimbiu, a family friendly open world, and a bunch of year old games that people already bought on other consoles because they came out before the WiiU had even arrived. Not to mention WiiU is getting terrible after release support--ie DLC/patches/etc. Of course 3rd parties were going to balk at it. They balk ever time, and complain about it no matter what
Nintendo has magic to turn systems around. They have done it nearly every time, and either way Nintendo will be to blame. Whether they wait on 3rd parties to produce the install base or Nintendo does it themselves. They will succeed, and the self-righteous 3rd parties will complain that they can't compete with 1st party exclusives.
