They might as well delete their TOS if they're not going to enforce it.

"You've probably noticed the one dollar funding goal and are wondering WTF. Well, as I’ve been working on this game I’ve fallen in love with it, and I’m going to finish it, no matter what, even if I don’t raise a dime. Now, since I went indie years ago I’ve been bleeding money, and I don't know how much indie resolve I have left. And having a family to support, it would be irresponsible of me to keep working on the game for too much longer or blow what’s left of our savings on it, which is why I’m trying to raise some money—to get an idea of how much people want this game, and find out how much more time and money I can responsibly spend. So it’s up to you: whether I’m going to spend just a few months tying a bow on this and shipping it, or, in my dream world, spend many months, bring more people onto the team, and do something super-extra-awesome.

In a way, this is what a lot of indie games, like Overgrowth, Prison Architect, and Desktop Dungeons, do to fund development—through preorder campaigns—but I’m using Kickstarter to concentrate it into one month so I can get a good idea, right off the bat, what budget I have for this project.

I already love this game and think it's easily going to be worth your money—at the very least it’ll have five levels, thirty challenges, and give you hours of enjoyment. But it could be so much more. And it's up to you to make that happen!

In other words, I don’t need your money. But I need your money."

I will never back a kickstarter, even if its like MGS Remake. I don't give out money on promises, give me a final and finished product and we will talk. I have a few KS games I will end up buying if/when they release, but that is the only time anyone sees a dime from me.

Funding Goal: $1

Project Goals: To buy me a KFC so I can keep working on my lazy Reskin.

Stretch Goals: $20,000 and I'll actually define a project for the game.

I don't think they understand the difference between Need and Want. Most (if not all) Kickstarters NEED money or else they won't exist. Penny Arcade  has money with ad revenue, but they want more free money, and will continue to exist either way.

This feels like an incredibly tacky way for  Penny Arcade to take advantage of their fans.

Takashi Tokita is on board!
Update #7 · Jun 4, 2013 · 3 comments

The legendary Takashi Tokita says he is happy to be interviewed. Below are the covers to just a few of his games. He told me he couldn't believe it's been 30 years since the launch of the Famicom. Indeed, I thought, how times have changed.

Tokita-san has such a diverse portfolio, but if this book succeeds I would be inclined to pay particular attention to LIVE A LIVE. As he said in a 1UP interview: "I think LIVE A LIVE is my oldest child because that is my first game as a producer and director, so I love it." It's also a genuinely unique RPG, implementing an interesting, free-form multi-chapter system. I'd also like to chat about the challenges of adapting fiction novels into video games.

Something else which I'm inclined to ask all my interviewees, is the layout of the office over the years. I've read personal accounts where companies hired a small apartment for projects in the 1980s, and I've always wondered: when working on that famous game, how were things laid out? When there's four or five people working in the living room area, how are the desks arranged? Were the musician and the programmer back-to-back? If there's time I thought it would be a fun idea to ask interviewees to sketch out what they can remember of the office layout.

If you like the list of interviewees I'm building up, it's essential we spread the word. None of these interviews can take place if the goal isn't reached. Let's make this happen!

Gotta second Armikrog.  Any ideas on how to spread the word to the Japanese market?  I recall that the Neverhood was big over there.
