I never knew that Mewtwo would be such a pain in the ass at the end of the game...nobody ever told me.
All my knowledge from Pokémon came from the show; so naturally I thought Ditto was the most badass Pokémon there was. The first time I found one in the wild, my heart stopped. I immediately tossed my one and only Master Ball at him in order to catch him. Nobody told me that Ditto's were ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! AND WERE TERRIBLE!!!
Fast forward a few months, and I'm at the end of the game. I'm locked in an epic battle with Mewtwo on the school bus. No matter how low I got his health, I couldn't capture him. Time and time again, I sent Ultra Ball after Ultra Ball out and he would still elude me.
Friends all around me eventually asked why I wasn't using the Master Ball to catch him. I felt my face go flush with embarrassment...the walls started closing in around me. There was NO WAY I could tell them the truth, I would never hear the end of it. I said I had never found the Master Ball in the game and was too close to the end to bother going back for it. Everyone around me bought the lie; I was safe from ridicule but the lie burned a hole into my soul.
For 15 long years I've carried this lie with me. It's time the truth finally came out. There is nothing I can do and no amount of words I can say which will ease the burden of truth I've just entrusted to you. All I ask is forgiveness in time.
