When the Xbox360 launched on 11/22/05, no warranty was given until 7/5/07, if your console died you had to buy another one with the 3 month warranty Microsoft gave because Microsoft didn't want to recognize the Red Ring of Death, even now the 360 still has a 60% failure rate.

I work at walmart in from 2007 until 2009 and the customers coming in every day were buying new xbox 360's as a result of the red rings of death.
There was one old man about the age of 60 that bought 3 xbox 360 pro's and frustrated decided to buy an elite after the 4rd pro bit the dust..
From my personal experience there were a lot of consumers opting to buy new consoles rather then wait for the warranty.
As a whole there is no telling how many bought new ones but I think that it's telling in my mid sized community that people daily were buying new ones.
