Browser Games

Heya /games/!
Random events of my life are leading to me being without a proper computer for a few months, and while mobile games can be satisfying, I think I'll be lacking the social aspects.

So, I was wondering, what Browser Games do you play, and how are the communities? Anywhere I can get started now without feeling like I'm 5 years behind?

If you're into the more slowpaced, but still community-based kind of game, I'd say perhaps try out E-sim.
It's a game quite like e-republic, if you've tried that, but it has no buy-ins etc, so everyone can progress at the same rate.
It revolves around you being a citizen of whatever country you chose (preferably you're also fluent in the main language of said country), and then training, working, buying and selling items/companies, fighting battles etc. It has a fairly good political system, with elections for both party politics as well as presidential stuff, and the separate country communities are pretty active, which is one thing I really like.

As it's free, can't hurt to try it out, can it?
e-sim.org is where it's at.
(Or http://e-sim.org/index.html?lan=129541, which is my shameless referral link, which will give both you and me some extra ingame credits, no downside)

Otherwise, just google around, try to find games with active unofficial forums, those tend to be pretty nice community-wise.

(If you decide to join e-sim, be sure to pop by the various IRC channels that exist, much of the inner organisations of the countries reside there)

e-sim is giving me 503 errors as well

I think I'm just going to roll into a ball and cry.

Seems to be up and running for me just fine now.
Although, they do have some server problems every now and then, so just be patient.

Wow, MUDs that really does bring back memories.

*walks in room, sits in the corner brooding*

I remember the days when I thought MMOs would be like graphical MUDs. Everyone wandering around in character, roleplaying and going on adventures.  Instead we get no talk about anything other than loot hunting and grinding strategies.  Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yeah, what a damn dissapointment most MMOs have been, compared to what they could have achieved.
Sadly, I think it's as much up to the playerbase as it is to the design, most of the masses that play MMOs today aren't capable of enjoying the kind of things you describe :/
