What the fuck is this shit? Why is it so popular? What's the objective? Why are the graphics worse then NES?

I simply saw no purpose in what I was doing.
I did see why I was playing Halo CE (Because I love the story and general aire of dragonforce), but when I was playing minecraft, there was nothing to do but build and try not to die.
I don't play MW2 much, but there is something to work twords there, I.E., rank and weapon choices.
There isn't any sort of reward in minecraft, you just... build stuff. And try not to die. That's pretty much it.
You do get recognition if you make something awesome (such as a massive minecraft mona lisa), but that only lasts untill the next awesome thing is created.
The general point that i'm trying to get acrost here is that there isn't anything, in my eyes, worthwile in spending HUNDREDS of hours on this game, for little to no profit.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy playing it... for an hour or so.
But then I went back to ranking up in ODST. *grind, grind, grind*
It may be because I enjoy RPG elements in my games, but that's a guess.
A big reward keeps me comeing back every time, for some reason.
To quote the great hivemind: "Opinions differ."
You like minecraft, I don't. Simple as that.
All of this is my opinion, and you're entitled to yours.
I was simply stateing why I did not like minecraft, nothing more, nothing less.
Oh, as for:
|You can never give a purpose to something that is completely played for fun
Yes you can.
With magic.

Spore lets you traverse an entire galaxy, doing anything you want in it.
Why isn't it as popular, useing your logic?
