Hello /g/, /v/ directed me to your board for my query.

First of all, I'm a newfag and I was hopping you might fine anons of /games/ would be so kind to help me.

A friend suggested I buy a desktop/laptop for gaming over at Ibuypower.com and was wondering if you could offer me some input in regards to their products and overall experience.

Someone from /v/ suggested I build my own desktop from http://www.newegg.com.

I don't really know much about Ibuypower, but I do know that Newegg is excellent. Building your own computer is also a lot cheaper so I strongly recommend you get some parts from Newegg and build it.

I have an Ibuypower laptop and it runs awesome. Their ridiculously inexpensive and have a lot of power. But it would be more efficient to build your own desktop.

Building a PC is on the cheaper side and more fun as well! It's basically oversized lego blocks that you put together. Buying a prebuilt usually gimps one compotent or another. I think iBuypower just gives you a weaker graphics card most the time and sometimes with their AMD processor use an AM2+ board. The only prebuilt I can recommend is a laptop. I would advise you read on how to build a PC as it is pretty straightforward process and only takes around an hour at most to build it completely and install your OS of choice. Hope you make a good and informed decision!

I'll take these two. What've you got?

I got mine from cyberpower (very similar) only spent 400$ on this SOB and I can play Crysis and everything else I've pirated at full settings. Shit is cash.
Protips:
1.)Google AMD core unlock
1a.)Buy AMD dual core
1b.)Perform core unlock
1c.)70$ quad-core!
2.)Don't waste money on an expensive case. Just get one with vents in the front, back, and at least 1 side. Then put fans on all of them.
3.)Don't buy an OS.
4.)Don't over do it with the graphics card. Seriously, you fucking people are stupid. You don't need a dual core gpu with 3 gigabytes of ram. Fucking reatards. The ps3 has 550 mhz with 512 mb ram, 360 has 500 mhz with no dedicated ram (leeches off of cpu's 1 gig). So if you have a 1 ghz gpu with 1gb dedicated ram, you'll be stronger than any console.

The last guy who post made no sense on 4. Is this guy trolling? And most his points are right. Don't waste money on a case, never buy your OS, and you don't need a 400 dollar GPU. Also the most you need is a dual-core processor but I've seen people with the new Sempron processors run games at max with a weaker GPU and lower resolution. I wouldn't recommend getting an ATI card but if all you run is winblows and only play games then it's fine if the cost is low and it has good reviews and benchmarks.

So if you guys are suggesting not buying an OS, then what do? >.>

Download an .iso of a Loonix distribution and run games with WINE.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 13:57

Just torrent a retail copy of winblows and use a loader.

Doesnt microsoft have that $30 for win7 if youre a student?
How does that work? Basically, I want to know if I can pay $30 and get win7 for the computer I'm building.

Why would you pay someone like microsoft 30 dollars? Just download a retail iso from a torrent site, burn it, and install win7 and then use a loader like watloader or dazloader. It's not that hard and it's easier than all the bullshit verification you probably have to do with winblowz7 with the legit version. We're trying to help you save money.

Yeah, I suggest building your own pc. Newegg is a good place to start and figure out what you can afford, or want in your pc. It's nice to know that your pc is your own creation.
