Error with Portal

When i start portal it says.
"This game has a minimum of 8.0 directX to play"
I have directX 9. What's the problem?

well the box says it needs at least 1.6 GHz proxessor with 512 RAM. I got like 1GB of ram with 3 GHz.
It needs a directX compatible video card and i have a directX 9 video card with 512 Mb
