World of Warcraft - FOR FREE!?

Name: Gorge 2007-12-28 0:05

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone else saw this. This free server, WoW Champion just opened, their site is http://www.wowchamp.org/
Anyone hear about it? I just started playing on here, it's actually really fun. Independent from Blizz, but it's just like it, except you level with 40 times experience and much more frequent drops. Not too many people play there yet, cause it just opened, but the community is growing and everyone seems pretty friendly. They even have a few GMs.
I dunno, I like it, I'm considering ending my $15/month if I can be playing like this, same thing.. actually, even more fun.. for free. You can't beat the experience Blizzard gives you, cause obviously they make the game, but leveling on Blizzard servers is pretty tedious and boring. Plus, when you raid, you pretty much forfeit your life. On WoWchamp the drop rates are increased, so you won't need to be doing the same instance so many times just to get one item.
These are my thoughts.. what do you guys think?

My friend playes on a illegal shard and some of the stuff is not working correctly. For example you cannot sneak up to mobs as a rogue.

There's different bugs for different servers.

Private servers have their merits, of course they are not the real thing but clever admins usually compensate for that. For example personally im an old GM on my friends server that has quite a large community already, been around 5 or so months.

We have added more levels, custom items, custom encounters, custom instances, custom shops, towns even have competitions running on who can clear the maze we created the fastest. Or who can climb the obstacle course the fastest to win prizes. These are the things that keep people interested in custom servers over the retail server.
Of course another point is to see content. how many people have seen Illidan in total out of the people playing retail?

If you can live with it, do it.

What are some particularly clever servers?

1) Nice work advertising
2) It has ups and downs, stick with Blizzard if you got a good ping, unless like me you're an Ausfag and after a year you said fuck it to the 350+ ping average.
3) Unless you got good developers it will get boring. You got your items, cleared BT - now what?
4) Stop playing WoW
