As you can really tell, I'm a little bit nutzoid about this guy, and a little obsessed. Long story short. I tend to like good over evil, and I dislike it when people turn certain good characters into evil in their works, Karel of Fire Emblem 7 is one of 'em.
Let it be fanfics, or something else. It has been a controversial issue. Stop ruining Karel's character people! He is not a villain nor evil. Just bloodthirsty. He is actually a nice folk, not to mention that he was recruited by the protagonists, joined their side and fought the same enemies as they did in canon, and he never joined the antagonists' side at all.
While I have no problem with the other characters of Fire Emblem, they're great (or funny). It is just Karel that I have to concern about. Now, let's look at some other stuff, shall we? He killed his own family! That was a bit stupid! But he did it for his sword obsession. In Fire Emblem 7 Rekka no Ken, Karel did nothing but to only seek out worthy oppoments.
In fact, Karel has always been a good guy with a kind expression (unlike what people portray him as in fanfics). Especially when he becomes the Sword Saint in Fire Emblem 6 Fuuin No Tsurugi, his more positive self. When he was very young (in his pre-Sword Demon life), he picked his sister up and carried her home when she got lost. But even when he was the Sword Demon, he still had a good heart except it was rare or secretive, and his real personality was never done to its full extent in that time. May I remind you that, instead of even attempting to kill his own friends, he just said things like "I will not fight you.", "When I am with you, I remember the past.", "And you are weak that is why I do not need to kill you" or "When I am near you, I feel...calm." and had nothing to do with killing, and was more-then-likely got redeemed by one of them.
I don't want to say again why Karel should never be a villain and should be good instead. But the problem is, if Karel was a villain character he would'nt be too different from Sephiroth (who I don't like too much), and can't we, I dunno, be a little more different, or even original? Because Karel and Sephiroth don't mix. They're different for pete's sake! Especially in the fact that Karel is a good character on the protagonists' side and that Sephiroth is an evil one who's an antagonist. Karel would kill him instead of joining him, just like every goody does to a baddy.
While fanworks are not canon or even real, they still offend me in many ways. Join up in arms, my brothers and sisters! Assist me to remove the messes and solve the problems.
I'm not offending anyone in that matter, but I was feeling bitter I had to write this. The trick is, not everyone thinks the same way as I do. But don't criticize too much, I just want to get my point across.
