How to make a map for HL2.

1. Imagine the first room.
2. No, you remember it too small. Make it about twice as big.
3. Also keep in mind that the model of the player model (info_player_start) is smaller in Hammer than in-game, so you'd want to make the room on a bigger scale than the player model.
4. Good, but considering tat you'll be spending several days decorating this room, you'd probably want to make the player remember it more, by making the room bigger. Doubling the size is about right.
5. Also remember that if the player has the HEV suit when he reaches this room, he will be able to suit-sprint through ths room wice as fast as intended. Compensate for this by making the room/scenery twice as big.
6. People will laugh at you if you just give them cramped corridors and tiny rooms to run through. They expect breathtaking sceneries by now, so imagine real hard any way in which to make the room even bigger, and then make the room twice as big to accomodate for added shelves, vents, and other wall protrusions. Don't forget to add as many windows as possible, so that they get a feeling of where they are.
7. Now add the skybox. Don't cut it off with hills, because that's just lame. Instead make it stretch all the way to the horizon.
8. Remember that the player can suit-zoom if they have the suit, so make sure that the horizon is really far away by doubling the distance.
9. Remember that Hammer has to compete with the CryEngine now, which has "skyboxes" that goes on for miles.
10. Okay, that was room one. Next room: Repeat steps 1-9.
