October 25, 2007 - Sony Corp. has raised its overall earnings and profit forecasts for the remainder of the year, despite the still-sluggish performance of its struggling games division, which saw its seventh consecutive quarterly loss in the second fiscal period.
This quarter, the PlayStation division's losses topped $840 million, more than doubling since the same period in 2006.
Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda told Bloomberg News the company may miss its target to sell 11 million PS3 consoles this fiscal year and will attempt to break even in its games division during the fiscal second half.
Although Sony's PlayStation division saw a sales increase of about 43 percent year-over-year during the second fiscal quarter ended Sept. 20, the PlayStation 3's pricing problems kept it from making significant gains, according to Sony's earnings report.
