PSP?

Never had a PSP or played it before, but I'm interested only because of FFT. Know some things, but not really.

I want to get a white PSP (Japan), but is it worth it? Yes, I have a DS, and don't tell me not to get the PSP just because it's this generation's Game Gear in spirit.

I know that UMD movies are region locked, but that was born a dying format. How easy is it to bypass, and where can I go to do so? Just wondering, in case I get any free movies.
What can't the PSP emulate, and what does it emulate but poorly?
By default, will the language in the PSP menus and the games be Japanese only, or can I toggle with it?
The PSP I'm interested in is suppose to have a universal adapter, so that should be fine playing (and charging) in the US or where ever I vacation in?

If there's anything else I should know about getting a white Japanese PSP, or just the PSP in general, let me know.

Ok, Let me explain.

PSP CAN emulate PERFECTLY the following consoles/portables.

-all old consoles before Nintendo-
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Sega Genesis
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Playstation
PSP(1)

Now, The Nintendo 64 DOES work on the PSP, but it's no where near perfect yet. Perfect means it can run games at full speed. Wait maybe a year and a nintendo 64 emulator for psp at full speed should be out.

(1)You can also play PSP games on your PSP. I mean as in, you don't have to buy them. You can download a PSP ISO and put it on your memory stick, and play it from there. I have about 12 PSP games on my computer, and maybe 5 PSP games on my memory card.

-UMD movies are region locked-
This doesn't matter. In the PSP, you can trigger a mode that allows you to free the region lock off any UMD. But why buy an UMD? You can just download the movie!!

I believe I covered all..The only part part about all this is downgrading.. There is literally endless possibilities you can do with your psp that people do not know yet. This is why I sold my DS for a PSP. PSP with being hacked SUCKS.

Hmm, I heard somewhere that I should avoid versions above 2.x? Is it a pain to getting around 3.x, since I'm suppose to get a certain version of GTA:LCS? Is that the old, or new version of GTA?
And when it comes to having text in menus and in-game in English, is it a hassle to have a foreign PSP, or are non-English problems arising moot?
Will America get non-nigra PSPs? Or will I have to use faceplate crap?

Rumor: will there be a new PSP a la DS lite? I'm waiting until FFT comes out (with lag and shit sound fixed) before I get a PSP

Well, It depends. If it's 3.x or above you might have some trouble downgrading it. Yes you will need the GTA:LCS if you have a PSP with firmware 3.00+. I'm not sure, I haven't been keeping up with the updates every since I got mine downgraded. There MIGHT be a 3.03 downgrade or something.

Yes avoid it at all cost upgrading to 3.x+. And it's the old GTA.

I'm unsure about this one. I never watched an UMD movie on my psp. I either downloaded or yea..downloaded it.lol.

I'm pretty sure America only has black psp's. Yes you might have to do the faceplate crap.

I've heard somewhere sometime this year they might realize a new psp out. But that's also just a rumor I heard of GameFaqs.If they do, I advise not to get it. Why? Because it's firmware will most likely be 4.00+ and homebrew(console games on psp) will be impossible.

Be weary though, white PSP has TA-1082 (whatever) downgrading below 2.4 (i think)it will brick your PSP.

DS the most OVER-HYPED handheld of all time. It's an average handheld at best.

No, alex found a way to downgrade TA- motherboards now. I had a TA-082 and it was easily downgraded. The only problem is if it's over 3.03..Then there is no way to downgrade it. I say the sooner you get your psp, the less likely it'll be version 3.00+.
