okay, i've just got the national dex and have begun trading over some pokemon from emerald. thing is whenever i go into the pal park and encounter a pokemon it freezes with a horrid, constant note playing.

can someone help me understand better how EV's work?

i'm fighting golbats to get speed ev's and my pokemon has the pokerus, so he should get 4 ev's toward speed which equal 1 speed up each time i fight a golbat, right?

do these stat points only go up when i level or do they go up when i get 4 evs toward a stat?

also, i was wondering if my source may be wrong and perhaps golbat only gives 1 point towards speed.
