Seriously, what the fuck happened to games like ultima 7, contra 3, jet set radio, baldurs gate, fallout, planescape, gunstar heroes, wonder boy, secret of mana.

Did people shit themselves over final fantasy 7 and just all decide to say "LOL IT'S EASIER TO MAKE GAMES FOR NIGGERS AND THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR SO LET'S ALL MAKE FINAL FANTASY SEVENS OR WOW'S"

They dont want risk too much, so they only make games wich is save  that people are buying them.

FF7 and WoW are great games, they just have idiotic fanboys.

Granted, neither are as good as Planescape, but I would definitly say WoW is better than secret of mana ( though not SD3 or Legend of Mana)

dont get me started. games industry has been going downhill for over 10yrs now.

Patches? we dont buy your game and play the fucking beta until you  feel like finihsing fucktards!

old school. it took years to dev. not 4months. and the shit worked. always.

This is bullshit nostalgia. Back in the late 80s/early 90s, more often than not games would still need to be patched after release--but back then, additional printings of the game would be made pre-patched.

Please, when was the last time you played a console game (any game for that matter, but console games were worse since they couldn't be patched) that was COMPLETELY free of bugs? I'm not aware of any, and if you are, you probably haven't looked hard enough. I will agree that it's getting ridiculously out of hand nowadays, with games so glitched that they're unplayable out of the box. There will always be bugs, and we will always need patches, but they should fix minor gameplay bugs or system specific issues, not things that are broken for all players on all platforms.

Games aren't going downhill. It's all about making something orginal. In the 80's/90's nothing was newly made yet so it was easily to decide what games to make and etc..But now it's much more harder making games on systems like xbox360/ and ps3 because THEY ARE THE SAME AS XBOX 1 AND PS2 EXCEPT SOME GRAPHIC AND FRAMERATE IMPROVEMENTS!!.

Also, Another reason is that classic game developers either 1) left their companies or retired 2) Cannot develope high-tech games for such high-spec systems, 3) they hired a bunch of untalented game developers or 4)games are much more demanding now.People except the game to fucking be out of this world, when really it takes hard hard work to even make that. it's like drawing a mona lisa painting for each game you make.

Another easy reason is look at your age. Of course you can be 30 years old still playing games, but it starts to get boring if your playing some sonic/mario/megaman game because you already know too much and whats going to happen next so basically nothing is new to you..so we decide to give it a mediocre rating because of that. You must think of all the new people and generation who are just experiencing this classics. People say it might be time to put sonic to sleep, or it's time to end the megaman series, when really it's time to for YOU to look at the outside world and notice your a little bit too old to be playing them and SAYING THEY SUCK.

PS
sorry i really just dont like ign. they give all my games i grew up with on new-gen consoles friggin bad ratings, when really i enjoyed it alot. I might not go to ign anymore.

try remaking the shit they tried to make well years ago but failed at then.

i didnt say they were all good. just bug free... and yes. all games. glitches? oh yeah. but nothing that can crash a system so badly now it means OS rebuild like now though.

People are still making worthwile games.  They are just hidden behind the overwhelming legions of shit titles that come out every few minutes these days.  As production time decreases and developers care less about their products, the few gems where a developer cares or a programmer has poured his life into the game become harder and harder to find, but...

Protip: stick to indie games and indie companes like pixel or that game company or chilselbrain.  That's where the new quality has gone.

truth. ID announced Quake Wars 2yrs ago. EA then announced BF2142 about 30days after ID announced their release. EA release BF2142 6months later. It was shit. ID took 2yrs to finish development.

guess which one i'm paying $$$ for then?

just goes to show that its easy making unoriginal games, while as making a good classic original is hard work and requires years.
