1 and 2 are seriously amazing games. so creepy and full of atmosphere. I dudnt like 3 so much. It was too actiony and I've never played 4, I heard it was bad.

You should get Resident Evil: Deadly Silence it is a real good game it contains both the original version (more puzzle oriented) and rebirth mode (more action oriented)

it also has a multiplayer mode but everyone you play with must have the game

I dont think it is scary since I played both the playstation and gamecube version before this game but if you are a newcomer to the RE series you might jump a few times

the graphics are beautiful to DS standards

another good thing about this game is the price I think you could get it new for like 20 bucks

Second life is far more frightening than Silent Hill or Resident Evil Combined.
