Metal Gear Solid vs. Splinter Cell

Name: Anonymous 2007-03-07 1:34 ID:oYLxeweq

So we had a nice long argument in /v/ discussing both of these games, it went on longer than expected with both sides showing lots of support. Let's try to continue the discussion here: What series is better? but most importantly, why is it better?

Metal Gear Solid. Storyline is ridiculous and over-convoluted, gameplay is stuck in the early 90's so of course there are boss battles, all they're missing is flashing red when their health is low.

Splinter Cell: Being able to play the game without having to sit through endless cutscenes and codecs.

But seriously, they're too different to compare. The only thing they have in common is some sort of steath element. SC's is closer to a commando novel, where MGS is closer to a Hollywood movie.

Yeah, trolling aside, both games have their pros and cons. I seriously hate MGS's story though. The boss battles may be fun but they really need to design and name them better.

Is someone there? <- that is stupid question... (MGS2)

You can't say something is better for some reason.
It is better if you like it.

Maybe I have bad english but it is possible to understant it(?)

A game can be technically better, have a better story or better gameplay. I can safely say that Forza Motosport is better than Big Rigs: Over the road racing, and it would be correct.

1/3. A game can be technically better in some objective measure. Storyline and gameplay are opinions.

| 1/3. A game can be technically butter in some objective measure. Storyline and gameplay are onions.

Metal Gear Solid, IMO. I like the over-the-topness, and fun boss battles.

And of course Snake would kill Sam Fisher. He can dig bullets out of his fucking skull with a knife. Let's see Sam Fisher do that. :)

I've only played the first MGS and I hated it for its unrealistic gameplay. Splinter Cell for me.

>He can dig bullets out of his fucking skull with a knife.

...And characters from DBZ can blow up planets with glowing stuff from their hands (over 9000!!!!1one), but does that make it good? Splinter Cell is much more fun and more realistic as well.

does game need to be realistic?
It's game!!!! USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!!

Name: Anonymous 2007-03-19 17:18 ID:nRHdtQ4o

mgs is alot more fun, has replay value too, kojima has done a fantastic job on the whole series, with splinter cell you have to play it a certain way, do the missions a certain way and thers no room to get creative. mgs wins flat out

Name: Anonymous 2007-03-20 4:41 ID:k6Au7Wgb

Not really, Splinter Cell offers much more variety in the gameplay, there's tons of ways to kill or knock out your opponents and lots of gadgets to toy with them. You can go rambo and kill everyone with the shotgun attachment, or go ninja and dispose of them silently.

in mgs, if you get the stealth, you can put c4 on thier backs! you have much more fun in mgs because of all the ideas you can come up with

have you seen a santa pants man?

Name: Ace 2007-03-20 13:41 ID:bQcpTO6W

throw a grendade while you are wearing stealth in mgs2. the guard comes up to it, it explodes, everyone freaks out, and you have a guard with red pants.(blood)

Name: Ace 2007-03-20 13:43 ID:bQcpTO6W

and one more thing with stealth, do a hold up in a room with multiple guards. they get confused, and kick the guard onto the floor. it is one of the many funny things you can do in mgs2
