a lot of mmorpgs are so devoid of actual game content, they defeat the purpose of a game providing a unique opportunity. If you have a program to do all the boring parts for you, you would realize how little actual content there was. There's nothing wrong with monthly fees but why pay monthly for something you could find in a game made 10 years ago?
Wow is just a replacement grind for your real life grind of school and or work. I knew exactly what to expect before playing Wow, and I played till about mid level 20 before concluding it was complete shit. Games like Wow defeat the purpose of a game reproducing a unique experience in the first place.
