State of online game communities?

Today, one of my close friends was playing Guild Wars. In Kaineng Center, an area in the game where lots of people can gather in the same instance rather than the explorable areas which separate people unless they are in a party, she found two people arguing in the game's local chat channel. The first person's character had a black skin tone, and the second was white. The white character was calling the black character a nigger, and the black character called him a pig and a faggot.
My friend calls the black character on the fact he'd use the term pig based on racial hate, but wouldn't think twice about using a derrogatory term like faggot, because everyone knows gay is bad. The black character gets offended and says "YEAH WELL I BET UR GAY," and my friend states that she is a girl. In response to this, the black character starts flinging one-winded, half-assed insults like "I bet ur mom has a dick" and "ur not a girl, ur a 45-year old man," despite her just trying to talk sense into this guy. Many other people join in on the argument, except most of them are on the black character's side, joining in on the mud-slinging. Most of them were just mindlessly flaming, whether they knew what they were talking about or not. She comments on how people like this ruin the community for people trying to enjoy the game, and the flamers accuse her of being a roleplayer and a carebear.

Is it just me, or has the online gaming community gone way downhill? Every popular online game has people like this, especially Guild Wars and World of Warcraft. Has the online gaming community gone to hell?

Guild Wars is crappy shit anyway. Stop playing Korean made bullshit games. Get WoW or something if you want a MMORPG.
