Japan is the smallest market.
Microsoft should not give one nor seventeen fucks about selling their system or games there, rather, they should focus more on making the absolute best games they possibly can.
And a word to them, graphics != game, graphics=visual=movie. Superior graphics makes for inferior gameplay, much like the genre of discussion.
Design the GAME first, worry about how it looks after you get the damn thing to play right.

Truth. Microsoft doesn't have anything to offer Japanese gamers besides Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden. When that's all that's available to you, you just don't bother with the system.
Because of this, M$ doesn't have any Japanese sales. Japanese developing companies just don't bother with the system either for this reason. Why make games for a system no one owns?
Of course, you can already see the cycle.
And those of you who say Japan is too small of a market to be bothered, have no idea what you're talking about. Typically, Japanese sales of games are on par with the North American counter-parts. There is no reason M$ wouldn't want a piece of that pie, not even counting Japanese games that get localized for North America.
But the cycle has already started and perpetuated itself with the original Xbox. There is little M$ can do now that will fix the problem. Offering major incentives to developers and just hoping they will even out in this generation is all M$ can hope for.

The price and capabilities of the machine doesn't really matter. Come on the GC was more powerful and really cheap and it still couldn't sell. Why? Because didn't have games you want to play.

There are so many of you who make comments about Western games without ever playing them.
Some of you even bash them without ever playing them. Never played any FPS? Doesn't matter, they suck.
There are tons of games coming out over there that are very close to MGS4 and lots of you just ignore it, I don't understand it.
MMORPG we play are all western but ignore all other western games?
Japanese made FF11 is struggling along as all you play EQ.
So nobody gives any value to western games, I want to hear some people who've played western games before.

Well it looks like MS Japan are still saying "We're going to sell Xbox 360!" with such enthusiasm (but doesn't carry over to users, and with such crappy marketing!)
Western games, character designs suck, it's all Science Fiction and old men wearing power suits, there's nothing "pretty". The character Alicia in Bullet Witch, now there's a character Japanese would like, and would probably be received over there too. Why can't they make characters like that?
This year PS3 looked like less than Xbox 360 (LOL)
Almost like a buffed up version of the old Xbox
Then the controller has no rumble (LOL)
Horror games, race games, FPS, action games, RPG, sports games,
pretty much critical to have rumble you know (LOL)
Not that it's awesome or not awesome I feel there just weren't enough colorful games shown.
Metal Gear looked like a bunch of sand, FF13 was very pastel and flat, you'd think they'd show more variety of stuff

Who else is going to buy Wii and Dragon Quest while waiting for PS3 Price to Drop?
Yeah, DQS, FFC, Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Smash Brothers, Resident Evil, Excitetruck, I'm going to play these while waiting for PS3 and FF13 at a reasonable cost.
Only things on Wii that interest me are Zelda and Smash Brothers but I probably won't buy it. I will save up at least a bit for PS3, and in the meantime I can play PS2.
I couldn't buy PS2 with cash on hand so had to save up for that too you know. Hell even for Wii I will have to save up. I want to buy clothes too, it sucks being poor.
Hourly wage is $7 per hour, 3~4 hours 4 times a week = $450 bucks.
Cell charges $100
Clothes $100
Games $50
Entertainment $50
Saving $100 (besides games)
Realistically $50 left over, not enough right?
If you're just a student or whatever, you're going to have to save a lot. Well, I'll probably try to save more at first.
