How did you see games before they came out?

Before a game comes out, one may have high expectations or imagine certain features, only to find the game is crap and has poor reviews.  What games did you image would be completely different from what was released?

Anarchy Online: There would anarchy.  Cities would turn into free PVP zones.  Action based combat would apply to firearms and grenades, instead of "watch and wait" attacks.
Dark Age of Camelot:  You would work for King Arthur and engage in dialogue with related NPCs from Camelot stories, and perform missions for or against Arthur.
FFXI:  Would actually try to incorporate FFVII-FFIX elements into gameplay rather than cloning EQ.
Everquest:  Would actually have roleplaying elements such as a Rogue using non-combat abilities like in pen and paper.
Neverwinter Nights:  A lot more interaction with the environment, not just combat.
Counterstrike Source:  Would make use of actual infantry tactics such as cover and concealment, hugging a wall or being prone, using foxholes, combat vehicles, squad tactics.  A cross between Full Spectrum Warrior and Call of Duty/Battlefield 2.

Dungeon Siege:  Had more group strategy, NPC interaction, story,  and open ended gameplay.  Not just a straight line filled with punching bags.

Ultima Online:  As much NPC dialogue as Ultima 7.
Ragnarok Online:  As much stuff to do as Ultima Online
A tale in the desert:  90% more content.

Neverwinter Nights: Expected a LOT more hot nymphs like in the full-page ads.

DNF: Worst game ever; actual results: Worst game ever.
